NorthSec 2027: changements au CTF, Espressif et recrutement

English version below 👇

NorthSec 2027: CTF Changes, Espressif and Recruitment

NorthSec 2027 will take place May 10 to 16, 2027, one week earlier than usual. Preparations are well underway and the announcements keep coming! Here’s what to know this month. 👇

🚩 2027 CTF Changes: One CTF, Two Scoreboards

After many discussions with the community, here is the new CTF format. The CTF will take place May 14 to 16, 2027:

  • Two scoreboards, one CTF: teams and individuals choose between the regular CTF and the AI CTF. Maximum team size remains eight people.
  • Regular CTF: generative AI is allowed (to learn, or to write or modify scripts), but giving an LLM any context specific to the CTF is forbidden.
  • AI CTF: any LLM, harness, and AI tool is allowed without limitation, within our existing rules (notably the prohibition on brute-forcing the infrastructure).
  • The same challenges for everyone, including the physical tracks, with more of them this year and several new things.
  • The regular CTF remains the heart of the event. You can switch from the regular CTF to the AI CTF, but not the other way around, and you can change your choice until registration closes.

Our bet: a community that values integrity and mutual respect in competition. That’s what makes the scoreboard meaningful for everyone.

NorthSec is proud to welcome Espressif as the first sponsor of the 2027 edition! Thank you for your trust and for supporting the community.

🔌 The Badge Is Made to Be Played With!

The NorthSec badge isn’t a keepsake for your wall: it’s a playground. Again this year, participants had fun programming it, modding it, and pushing it to its limits.

To see how far it can be pushed, read Patrick Downing’s write-up of a journey with the 2026 badge. Good news: Patrick is now NorthSec’s VP Badge! 🔧

🏘️ Villages: The Call for Proposals Is Open!

Villages (the community room) are back in 2027! Creative, non-profit, and artistic organizations, and anything related to the digital world, are all welcome. If it encourages participation and fits the spirit of the event, we want it!

🤝 Recruitment: Join the Organizing Committee for the 2027 Edition!

We’re already preparing NorthSec 2027 and looking for people to strengthen the team:

  • Co-VP Logistics: manage venues and equipment (floor plans, setup, decorations, food orders). We need someone well-organized, ready to get their hands into the gears.
  • Co-VP Audio-Visual: lead live streaming and A/V setups. Profile: A/V technician/engineer or IT pro with event production experience (ATEM/vMix/OBS, SDI/HDMI/NDI/Dante, RTMP/SRT, supervising a tech team).

Does one of these roles speak to you? We have a team full of brilliant people ready to welcome you!
